We have all been in that situation where unsolicited advice has left us feeling sad, emotional and even depressed. It feels like you can’t move forward when the rug that was beneath you has been ripped away. Growth is part of life, but constructive growth needs careful consideration and personal investment from the right type of coach. This is why I wanted to write this blog for you, where I explain why I am not the right type of coach for everyone and this may well be you.
Health Coaches, like every profession, suit particular styles and modes of learning and of course personality types. You have probably used a number of professionals to help you in life – a GP, a physio, a chiropractor, an accountant, a solicitor possibly even a business Coach.
Some professionals just get you! and others leave you feeling unsatiated, and sometimes hurt and confused. Which is why you need to select the professional Health Coach that you want to work with carefully. Find out more about them and how they can benefit you.
This is why I have outlined in this blog why I don’t work well with some clients, I want to be transparent, open and give you space and the opportunity to consider all the options that you have and make the best possible choice for your needs and of course budget.
Over the years I have noticed that the type of client that doesn’t obtain the life and health transformations that they had expected
I’ve outlined below the 6 major reasons I have experienced why I’m not the right Health Coach for everyone. In all honesty, I don’t work well with some people, and that is
I am not the right coach for you if…
– You don’t want to invest in yourself
Not everyone is ready to invest in themselves. Sometimes spending the time, money and personal investment in finding out more about yourself can be painful. It can be painful on an emotional level and financial level.
It is particularly hard for women to invest in themselves. Women feel very comfortable investing in their family, even their qualifications and their careers but not their health. Studies have shown that women often don’t feel that they have the power or authority to say yes to investing in themselves
Often women will doubt themselves, not sure what is right for them and even check in with their husband or spouse first.
Research is showing that part of this behaviour is a lack of confidence women experience in investing in their own growth.
– Lack of confidence in yourself
Women often lack confidence when investing in their own growth.
There’s been a great deal of research and writing about this confidence gap in women, and the root causes are often associated with societal and family backgrounds.
Men will invest in their hobbies, children will attend expensive clubs and activities. But many women don’t feel comfortable investing in themselves.
Why is that? I’m not sure. Because as soon as women invest in being healthier and happier they become the happier and stronger version of themselves to support their network. The phrase often heard is ‘you can’t pour from an empty cup’. But women so often do, exhausting themselves, putting their self-care, self-investment to the bottom of the pile
Women put themselves last and doubt their convictions in what is right for them. Often you’ll hear…
“Let me have a few days to think about this,”
or “I have to check in with my spouse about the investment.”
Knowing when something is right is an intuitive and a perceptive trait that some individuals have honed, the know how to make decisions and have the conviction of their decisions. It doesn’t matter if the decision doesn’t work, they have experience and confidence to know that growth comes with change and accepting that change.
– Change feels too painful
In the past psychotherapy and counselling have been associated with upset and emotional pain because during their life they have been avoiding and defending against feeling their own pain – whether that is sadness, hurt, betrayal, anger – for a long time.
Changing the way you have habitually done things can create disharmony for those around you, however when you come to a stop in a quiet, confidential space with someone who cares and who knows that the discomfort is there and who won’t ignore it.
A confidant and coach that helps you work through the change in a hopeful and positive way that doesn’t cause you to feel shame around your choices is a genuine relief for most clients.
– You don’t want to invest much money
The financial investment issue for women looms large in their mind. The smaller, cheaper weekly investment is easier to work with for most women, rather than a longer-term, often more expensive and life-changing investment.
For example groups like Slimming World costs around £6 per week – a cost that can be lost in the ‘family’ budget. The question is does this work? And what are the costs to your emotional health – diet groups are often based on celebrating the wins, and the feeling of shame and self-sabotage follows close behind. The emotional cost is often more expensive in the long run.
Coaching is more expensive. For example, my Group Coaching Programme the 6 weeks Gentle reset currently costs £415 – the price is rising soon click here to read more.

– You think nutrition and dieting are too complicated
(and I don’t blame you!)
Over the last 50 years, we have been fed erroneous science about food. Science has moved on very quickly but it takes a long time for the new information to filter through the institutions.
Nutrition and nourishment are very different for a 40-year-old woman than a 25-year-old man, I talk a lot about this in my best-selling book, Gorgeous! If you want to make nutritional changes but feel overwhelmed and confused by conflicting information and you’re left bewildered where to start then pick up a copy of Gorgeous!
There is a lot of conflicting nutritional information out there, it’s confusing.
And whilst some busy women simply give up, there isn’t enough time in the day to do everything, especially those habits you feel less inclined to give up. What you really need is someone who will hold your hand and help guide you to make the positive changes you need to have a life full of energy and vitality that will push you through the next 50 years.
All you need is one expert to guide you and cut through all the noise.
Whilst there is so much conflicting information cutting through this and finding what will work for you is why a Health Coach will give you a personalised plan based on you.
Recognising that not only is every ‘body’ different but also that everyone has different lifestyle challenges.
– You think you don’t need help
I work with highly successful, busy women who are independent. And it takes a lot for them to accept help.
Everybody craves support. We all look to our partner and best friend to give it, but they are too close, and often too emotionally involved to give an honest appraisal. Their judgment is cloudy to give a
Plus let’s be honest, they have their own ‘stuff’ they are working through, busy with their own jobs, life, and family commitments
You deserve to be helped. In fact we all need help, support, and assistance in our lives. Working with a dedicated Coach, who will spend the time focusing on you, will give you the support you crave.
Trying to figure out everything on your own isn’t the fastest route to success it is the loneliest and longest.
– You don’t want to get out of your comfort zone
With a busy lifestyle, a demanding career and family commitment finding time for yourself is hard. Finding time to make life changes is nigh on impossible.
Using a group dynamic will help you to use momentum and create the changes that will work for you.
Allow the flow of the group with my guidance and facilitation do the gentle push. I’ll outline strategies and tactics that will help you.
I would be delighted (honoured) to be your health champion.
