Finding your happy place when the world around you feels unsettling can be challenging. Your day or week starts well with fantastic intentions and then a child or even a parent is poorly or the car won’t start and your plans have to change very quickly. A tailspin of reaction and frustration with things not getting done, and your agenda at the bottom of the pile with feelings of resentment. This blog will outline interesting and innovative ways to unwind, destress and reach your happy space. Changing the way that you see the world will benefit you in ways you haven’t thought possible. Your outlook on life will change and new opportunities will arise. Research has proved that a happy optimistic demeanour opens more opportunities in life. You see things that pessimists don’t. Change your life one step at a time, add one of these habits into your today and watch your world change.
Find your happy place
Finding your happy place starts with an image, one that you can call upon from your past may be, or somewhere you want to go. I have a few happy places, one of them is when I am out running under a canopy of trees gives me a sense of wellness and abundance. The feeling of abundance comes from the wealth of trees, leaves, birds, sheep and clouds. The fact that I am running means that my endorphins are flying around, I have no aches and pains and in that moment I have no concerns. Every time my head goes down and I think about something I need to do or somebody that has hurt me, I immediately look up and look right.
Looking up stimulates the pineal gland which in return activates the release of serotonin in your gut which is the precursor of the chemical dopamine. Dopamine is known as the reward drug and it attaches a good feeling to that stimulus. Which is why runners get a ‘runners high’. Unfortunately, the reverse is also true, the reward centre can be stimulated by sugary processed food, booze and drugs.

When you exercise you change your breathing rate and more oxygen is absorbed into the blood, and more carbon dioxide is removed from it. Plus you release more of your body chemicals such as endorphins, dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin.
Whilst you in that happy place, whether it is running, being outdoors, or simply being hugged by a loved one, remember the feeling. Take the feeling with you into other parts of your day. Anchor your thoughts back to that moment.
Does happiness make you smile or does smiling make you happy?
The feelings you have in your body are energy in motion and because it is energy, they can be changed. Drop your self defeating self-talk, negative repetitive polluted mindset don’t believe everything your mind is saying. Know that you are so much more powerful than the words you hear yourself saying to you.
Eckart Tolle “it is not so much that you use your mind wrongly—you usually don’t use it at all. It uses you. All the things that truly matter — beauty, love, creativity, joy, inner peace — arise from beyond the mind”
You are amazing – give up your limiting beliefs
Give up your limiting beliefs about what you can or cannot do, about what is possible or impossible. From now on, you are no longer going to allow your limiting beliefs to keep you stuck in the wrong place. Spread your wings and fly!
Where are you focusing?
Focusing on the things in your life that are working well for you will change your body’s chemistry. For instance, take a moment to stop and take stock of everything you have achieved on a daily basis, it’s called the “ta da” list rather than “to do”.
Give up moaning
It is easy to dwell on things, ruminate and go over and over injustices in your day and why Joanna Bloggs has upset you, to feel righteous in your indignation, but remember that feeling of upset is simply a habit. A way of thinking that has become a habit.
A habit is the most powerful instinct.
You can change the way you think and use your energy in a different way. It will make you feel lighter and freer and have more clarity over your life. Looking for the blue sky, looking upwards at the bigger picture will make you feel happier and more at peace with the world around you. The way you live your life is based on past conditioning and holding onto things is part of your culture and upbringing. Which means that letting go won’t occur straight away but that is okay be patient and gentle with yourself and take one step at a time. Know that holding onto so many things cause you stress, pain and suffering. Instead, make the choice to let them go, be stress-free and happy instead of clinging on to them. Embrace change.

- Let go of always needing to being right. Defending your argument and proving your point can risk losing great relationships and can cause you a great deal of stress. What difference does that make? It is your ego that needs to be right, your higher more intuitive self can let go. Whenever you feel the need to join in a fight over who is right or wrong with the need to right ask yourself the question
Wayne Dwyer “When given the choice between being right and being kind, choose kind.”
- Let go of being in control and be willing to give up your need to control everything that happens to you and all around you. Situations, events, people whether they are coworkers, lovers or people you meet in the street or car, just allow them to be and allow everything and everyone to be how they are and see how much better that will make you feel.
Lao Tzu “By letting it go it all gets done.”
The world is won by those who let it go but if you keep pushing and striving the world is beyond winning.
- Stop blaming others for what you need to have or don’t have or what you feel or don’t feel stop giving your powers away and start taking responsibility for your life, your body and your thoughts. You are stronger than you think you can choose to let things go and move forward, it takes practice and patience.
